2016 Chevy Cruze: lower weight, better engine!

https://youtu.be/e0rYJSgVTto

I know, not many facts in the video, but it's so cool!

Ok, facts; Chevy claims the new 2016 Cruze to be 250Lbs Lighter, and the standard engine will be the previously optional 1.4L turbo I-4, which is claimed to give 40mpg hwy! Besides that, it should have an optional 1.6L diesel, and there are rumors of a hybrid! (Of course, the rumors you like never come true!)

Minor correction: it's not the same 1.4L but actually an upgraded aluminum version.

I was shocked to read of a 12.5 compression ratio for the new Volt!

Even better!

I'm happy with what's going on in Chevy and Ford lately, lower weight and better engines!

Shouldn't be too hard to lighten up the Cruze, its pretty much a tank for its size. Good to hear they're headed in the right direction though.

I saw a review claiming there would be a 2.0 turbo diesel, a 1.4 turbo, and a 1.5 ecotec engine. The last seems weak in power to weight ratio for US tastes (about 118 hp, 110 ft lbs torque, and 2700 lbs is kinda early 1990s Civic range). I'd like the weaker engine for the ecotec, but my countrymen want "horses"... turbo diesel is pretty exciting too. That would be fun to test drive.

IIRC, in the past Cruze models, the 2.0T diesel has only been available as an automatic... I would guess this one will be the same, sadly.

I wonder if the transmissions are swappable mechanically without a plate and, if they are, whether the electronics would be so complex as to make the swap almost impossible?

You can already get the Cruze with a 1.4L turbo.
