A 1JZ has an aluminum block? I thought it was iron...

I do think its quite light still, but the 1jz engine is actually a lot heavier than the l24 was, about 100-200lbs more now due to the turbo equipment and very beefy cast iron block of the 1jz (Inline6)

I always thought the 240 was the prettiest of the Zs.

The fill-up to "that looks about the same" concerns me. If you're trying to work out the MPG from a single fill, it would be better to have an actual measurement. Like a dipstick, or if that will mess up the foam in the cell, an inverse dipstick. (E.g., a stick you can hang on the filler neck that ends a specific distance down the neck, but above the foam; just fill until the fuel touches the end.)

Fill errors can give you pretty sizeable swings. Averaging over a lot of fills can help reduce that effect, but if you're trying to get numbers from one or two fills then accuracy on those fills is very important.

Dang, 35 MPG, 300 HP, and a sweet-looking Z. Pretty close to the best of all possible worlds, isn't it?

I'd consider the headlight covers, but mostly because I really like they way they look.

Agreed the numbers are not that accurate, but a ballpark. I wasnt expecting to have great results worth bragging about, since my tuning inst done yet I didn't think it was worth even trying to accurately track the mileage.

I think what Ill do next tank is record the resistance on my fuel level sender and refill to the same resistance, or dipstick it. But I'm still tuning everything in so hopefully things can only get better.

Man I love that car no matter what kind of fuel economy you're getting. But anything over mid 20s is awesome for that car as well.

1JZ eh? Interesting choice but I like it. I'd take that over my Sentra and its approx 30mpg any day.

Think magic buckshot, not magic bullet.

Adjustable / variable grille block? Since you sometimes use the car's power, you'd want a variable mod there, so it's more complicated.

so ive been tracking mileage for about 3 partial fill puts, all results are in the 30+mpg range. I tracked my fuel cell with a measuring device and filled to the same level, within a 1/16th of an inch.

Results are 34-35 MPG been working really hard to get where I am today, super happy. Results are from rural driving around 70-80 km/h, some stop and go.

New goal

40MPG, my plan is a 3.03 diff (vs my 3.54), 225/50 rear tires (my 285/40 are almost shot), an alignment (dosnt have one after all the modifications), ignition tuning.

i also think the 300 hp 30 mpg has to now be changed to 400 hp 40mpg

Fantastic results Meph. I'm just wondering what your car will look like with those skinny tires though. Are you going to backspace them so they fill your fender wells?

I don't think you could do 400hp/40mpg without going diesel, but I'd be curious what you can do.
