I forgot to mention it's made out of styrofoam.

Thanks for pointing out the mistake I made with the weight. The car really weighs about 2400 lbs. I weigh around 250. Plus all the stuff inside the car, i'd say it is currently weighting (not counting fuel) around 2650-2700 lbs.

Having a 3 speed automatic is really killing me. But, let's see where we get to.

Congratulations!

Well, all I can say is that I'm envious, I'm still working on my own techniques, but keep up what you're doing and you'll make 70 someday!

*Update*

Car now is equipped with a manual transmission, after I killed the automatic.

In order to keep with the eco theme, I recycled every part swapped. Nothing was bought new. Trying to lower the amount of trash.

I've been getting great results with the car. Having a manual really, really makes a difference.
Right now, I'm around 40 MPG without the grill block.

I plan on testing next week. Will post results.

Hey Uncle, I was chasing the elusive 70 mpg some time ago. Then a few things happened. I have kind of sobered up after that, and am taking it easy.

You have done quite well for yourself, and I envy your hardware resourcefulness. An automatic to manual swap would be something unheard of in India, where AT cars are considered as something luxurious and are charged a premium of $1k to $2.5k over manuals. Crazy world!

I had hit 55 MPG occasionally, and 50 MPG for a long long time. But the summer here is killing, and my wife won't allow me to switch off the AC, which basically puts me out of contention. I use a 1.5L Honda City (which is a Honda Fit Aria Sedan elsewhere) with manual tranny, which is very helpful in my FE marathons.

I use P&G (EOC) quite aggressively, but a few knocks on my battery is asking me to tone it down. My ultimate goal is also 70 MPG, but I am constrained by very short trips (~5 miles one way to work & back, that's all my driving, except for occasional 40-60 miles to the nearest city for shopping.

I will keep you abreast of my status, and will also keep an eye on how you fare, as you are the only one in my ballpark (I had Piloslaw to compete with earlier, but he is now head and shoulders above my level. To be fair, he uses a diesel, and is very hands-on with aero mods. I am a dunce who only can adjust the nut behind the wheel.

Wishing you the best for your 70 MPG, and Striving for the same myself,

Regards, Hummingbird
