45 MPG seems to be easily achievable with the truck. An uncle of mine used to have a 4-door Suzuki Vitara with the same engine retrofitted into, and in spite of the higher weight and lower gearing it consistently got 42 MPG in city and highway.

Yea...my daily driver is the 89 VW Jetta 1.6 NA Diesel that I am putting into this truck for now. I dont think my jetta has an egt guage now..I never had issues on the highway, been driving it for a year now..mostly highway.
My uncle used the VW-powered Vitara mostly on highway, and also didn't have major failures. Only a burnt head gasket until he changed the radiator for a more suitable one...

change of plans...

cant be without a car for work...decided to just put the MK3 TDI motor into this.

I also have some eco plans such as area bed cap, rear wheel skirt and some sort aero front end like Shepherd777's 18 wheeler. Im shooting for a high mileage truck now.

After all, that's gonna be better with the TDI. You'll be able to have a better performance even with the truck loaded

making some progress. Ill get photos uploaded tomorrow.
Oil pan sealed, rear main oil seal replaced.
Putting a new clutch and flywheel on and bolting the trans back up.

Got the passenger motor mount from the MK1 onto the MK3 motor without taking the timing belt off (I will update with pics, had to trim back plate and timing belt cover...bit nervous something ever falling in there).

I also decided to just purchase the WRD Advantage 020 to 02A Transmission Mounts to make life easier for me and to save time on trying to make my own.

I patched up some rust in the engine bay area..not the greatest as it was my first time welding with a Hobart Handler.

Gas tank was taken out and cleaned and ready for diesel.

After test fit, I need to see how to get the MK3 hydro shifter setup mounted and the pedal cluster. Then its wiring time.

Wait dumb question the gas tanks for gas have a smaller hole. The diesel pumps have a larger nozzle as prevent accidents don't they? How do we overcome this?

I just bought a used diesel filler neck...didn't cost much.

Back here the pumps have the same nozzle sizes, no matter if it's for Diesel, regular gasoline or ethanol.

We're not expected to figure stuff out. I'm surprised nobody has started making the nozzles be a completely different section, like the diesel has to be triangular or something similarly foolish.
