Thanks for the tip California98Civic, That's exactly what was wrong. I switched out the thermostat and now it runs fine. Sometimes that's all you need is another persons input. I hope to drive it to work tomorrow; that's 50 miles one way.

Just for safety sake I decided to cut a couple more holes in the nose. Better to have too much air, than not enough. I also started filling the low spots with body filler.

Thanks California. Well after nearly 2 months the civic is back on the road again. Today I drove it to work, and it ran just fine. Still having an intermittent problem with a fast idle, but am having that looked at today. I made some progress with the bodywork last night. I took a file to the edges of the new holes to remove the burrs. I sanded the putty down and applied another coat. This coat was extended out farther to cover the rivets.

Well after having the car in the shop; they figured out the problem with my fast idle was the throttle cable. It sits right on top of the valve cover; and when the engine got hot it would expand thereby causing it to stick.

Great. Now you have your daily driver back? You'll do some FE comparisons?

I hope to start today when I fill up with gas. My best mileage so far was 384.4 miles with 8.9 gal at 43.2 mpg going 55 mph. I'm also have some brake work done, so hopefully I'll be seeing some decent numbers.

I was able to put the final coat of putty on the top of the nose last night. It now completely covers the rivets and is ready for a final sanding and finishing. I also started to putty the drivers side of the nose. After almost dry; I hit it with a cheese grater file to knock off the high spots.

Looks clean. Next it'll get paint? Or is this the final, intimidating, stage!? BTW, I don't think police should give you difficulty. This is part of your car, not cargo.
