Got my spare hub caps from walmart and 16'' pizza pans. Worst case if I dont like the end result I will use the pizza pans on the replacement caps. Will do a write up for sure. If it comes out nice might make a few sets.

New average today... although not a tank average; still averaged 59.4MPG on same drive to work. Must confirm this afternoon on drive home.

So new images:

The front plate that I removed I plugged the holes with retaiver clips.

Walmart Hubcaps, $20:

16'' pizza pans: $3.00

Reading on the way to work...I am sure I can crack 60MPG on the way home.

And the vinyl speaks for itself haha

I spend about an hour making the clear covers thru a vac forming method. I vac formed over the 16" pizza pans. I will show the process bellow.

First 20x20 1/8 acrylic was used as it is sturdy.

Placed pan with a support under it in the vac former. And ran off the first part.

Part cooling off:

Pulled:

Trimming:

Sand edge smooth:

Done part

On the spare hub caps:

Drilled countersunk and secured:

Ready to go on:

Pretty clean? Will record any results ASAP. They run to the edge of the hubcap on the stock ones too and might ever try them on the OEM ones. This way my pizza pans also stayed in tact. Have both sets now.

Any thoughts?

-Alex

Does the dish touch the tires? That scares me because I don't want anything to rub against the tire. However, others will chime in with their experience.

That seems important concern. But wow! That's a cool process. I have a 13" metal disc wheel cover that I was hoping to use as a plug for a fiberglass mold. But this is very cool.

Wow amazing work! Where did you find the rubber to cover your front end for the grill block. I was looking at Lowes yesterday but ran out of time.

They do not touch the tire, maybe 1/8"-1/4" away from it. The Pizza pans are the same. I had that fear too but the center of the hubcap was more convex which helped perfectly line them up to avoid the tire.

The gaskets I found at Osh Orchard and Hardware store locally. In the window and garage door isle. They had the foam and rubber ones.

Not sure which ones to use now. Will put them on tonite I hope.
