98 civic cx to hx swap questions

Can I use a 92-95 vx ecu on a 98 cx? I got a complete swap from a 97 civic hx including engine, trans, Wiring harness, ecu, o2 sensor ,etc. I have heard the vx ecu is easier to keep in lean burn. i also just recieved a scan gauge 2 but the vss on the car only works sometimes and will sit at 20 mph when it doesnt want to work, going to get that working soon hopefully.

The scan gauge only works when the vss works?

To run the VX you'll need a obd2 to obd1 adapter. They don't all work right since most are made to run the p28 which lacks a few pin outs that vx's have.

Scan gauge is going to need the obd2.

I would start out with the hx ecu, and get it running perfectly first. Then worry about swapping to the vx. Otherwise it'll be hard to troubleshoot, and you might lose interest/ patience.

The swap is direct plug and play? Is there a pin out diagram for the vss from the vss to the ecu to the cluster? I am stumped as to why it works sometimes and then won't others? I found a tsb from honda about wires that rub through on the intake manifold but have already fixed that problem. Thank you.
