Could you modify it to work with a larger cover?

That motor is tiny. Can it over come the force of the air at speed?
Does it look like it can hold up to driving through rain?

These small DC motors will run happily fully submerged, but in time the armature laminations will rust. A spray with WD40 and a drop of oil on the bushings wouldn't go astray, but they could equally be replaced with something more heavy duty like a washer motor.

It is a tiny motor with an equally tiny gear reduction on it. But with the vanes pivoting on their centers, wouldn't the air pressure's effects be equalized?
I plan to seal the motor. My concern is a salty NY Winter, not rain.

Buy THREE: install ONE, put one away for WINTER-time, and keep one as SPARE.

Looks like a good donor product. Maybe paint the vanes to confuse passers by?

I have it installed now, but not automated. I'm opening and closing it with a AA battery. Not ideal, but the weather has changed in NY. I've had it closed 90% of the time lately.
