Why don't you just find a job that is closer .... or move .... or work from home ?

I don't remember OE being a requirement in the PA inspection manual... you might want to go to DOT in HBG about it. Be nice, though. They can help or hurt, it's your choice.

Hi Mike,

After contemplating on how to make a boat tail for the Insight, a simple yet perplexing question came up...

With the boat tail on the car, how do you get into the trunk to get access to the spare for example?

On the Insight, the spare is sunk down into a cavity at the same level as the fuel tank. With the boat tail in place, I would have a heck of a time trying to crawl into the back of the car to gain access to the trunk and spare tire.

Thanks, Jim.

Jim - not sure if you're aware the hatch on the Aerocivic still opens:

Obviously not quite as easy to get the spare out as the original hatch, but not as hard as going through the inside of the car either.

Hi Metro,

Right, I'm with you on that, but I would need a small step ladder to get in there!!

Maybe that's the solution?

Jim.

Or mount it under the tail, in a flush, covered recess.

Just how much contemplating are you doing about an Insight tail? You definitely have my attention!

Mount the spare tire in the boattail. The boattail can add a considerable amount of cargo space to your car. Might as well take advantage of it.

my wife and i both have very good jobs, and at this time umemployment in this area is well above average, some places above 20%. Her job is 30 miles from where we live, and my job is 55 miles from where we live. My car gets better mileage, and i would rather myself drive farther then her, for safety reasons. In other words, im more disposable then her. Ive looked into it, and i would lose money to take a job anywhere closer until i get through the police academy, which i start next year. At that point, we'll be able to move much closer, and i can hopefully starting riding my mountain bike to work again. But again, thats a year and a half at least before that can happen.

Mike i wanted to ask you, how thick is the lexan on the boat tails window? Im starting the design process for my car, and that would help a lot. If you have an hinge ideas that would be great as well, as my car is not a hatch back, and hinges will have to be added to add trunk space.
