That was said because you used 'y'all' [search in forum]; personally I think it's ugly, I would use Velcro.
And then more Velcro until they don't pop off in the hard corners.

A well designed Kammback that attaches to the hatch yet blends into the sides. What i like about the Kammback is the short stature. A mini shorty boat tail design, Kammback/boat tail hybrid could be done also.
I am going to look into having a big azz sunroof or moon roof installed, right in the middle of the roof to remove the peak.

How about a U-shaped filler panel with 15° tapered ends that fits under a half open hatch? Duplicate the latch mechanism and you'd have an easily removable piece that only touches weatherstripping instead of paint.
I suppose negatives would be an air gap at the top of the hatch, and rear vision.

Brilliant, you gave me a idea, if i bought a 2nd hatch to cut up/ build off of,i could keep the original packed away.
So many idea's so little time & money.

A 2nd hatch was my first thought, but people seem to like Chloroplast around here. Consider this:
This is considered settled art in Pro-Stock racing circles. Maybe a bustle-back hinged at the bottom for access to the hatch.

I have an article about an add-on cargo box for the Beetle from 1955 which is quite similar to the race setup. It's pretty smart!

I have access to extra back doors...including one with the 1.8S electric spoiler. Are they worth fooling with?

I wonder if the turbo hatch with the power spoiler , would fit other Beetles. If so, it would be a nice, all though expensive upgrade, $500 + ?
VW reports the Beetle Turbo's hatch spoiler to save 1 mpg and increase the high speed stability dramatically.
It can not be used in conjunction with a rear spoiler as it directs the air flow up and a away from the hatch area where its rear spoilers are typically placed.

To my understanding, the cars may be wired already to take the electric spoiler. all it'd take was mounting, plugging in, and replacing the panel where the switch is and plugging it in. I am not positive on any of this. may be able to hack it to get just the amount you want, or the modify the speed it autodeploys. I only have limited experience with a 1.8t car.
That being said, would a lip of some kind placed in the same spot not accomplish roughly the same result? something fairly small and in the correct flow line to then give a clean abrupt drop of the flow? seems to me the sides of the car cause as much trouble if not more than the roof flow.
