air flow 1960 style......

The Ford Museum is Sacramento had their "Shelby corner' out and all polished up at the Spring Autorama.

I have seen numerous Shelbys and Cobras and GT40 over the years, but was much more attuned to aerodynamics these days.......

I was struck by all the slots and openings on the GT40.
Also all the rivited parts.

Ford GT40 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

winner of the 24 hours of Le Mans four times in a row, from 1966 to 1969

... my vehicle type came in 11Th over all and 2nd in class in 65 so i place it here as another example of a 60's air body

Hedges and Hopkirk taking 2nd in class at Le Mans in 1965

The MG Experience: International MGB Racing 1963-1978

im no paddy hopkirk but here s my ride

Well, I guess Iwas refering to the ducts and scopes all over the body of the GT40

But they really did a nice job on the yellow MG flowing the American crash bumper into the hood lines
was that spoiler at the bottom actually offered in the yr the car was sold new? or is it something that was created yrs later?
?

1957 airbody

notice Paddys car has the Sebring Valance , which curves under , yellow car has a repo of the *works* Special Tuning Fairing which has a lip,i call them chin fairing . late production limited edition had a less aggressive version ..
can not speak to the FE of it i got it to settle Lift at road speed..
i want some sebring covers for my headlight wells but they are dear..

here is another MG air body circa 1957

EX181 works competition cars

23 Aug'57 - MG EX181- 1489cc producing c290 bhp @ 7000 rpm Supercharged MGA Twin cam engine. running on 86% methanol laced with nitrobenzene, acetone and sulphuric ether. - British Driver: Stirling Moss 245.64mph - 395.31 km/h - Experimental project 1100-1500cc
3 Oct'59 - MG EX181 - Increased to 1506cc producing over 300 bhp @ 7300 rpm Supercharged MGA Twin cam engine, running on 86% methanol laced with nitrobenzene, acetone and sulphuric ether. - American Driver: Phil Hill - 254.91 mph - 410.23 km/h - Experimental project 1500-2000cc - to this day still the fastest MG ever.
windtunnel testing and runs film ,,if they did the windtunnel for the 57 i should think the B and the fairings got the same treatment

right around 90 cubic inches 1.5l- what is it with america and the unwillingness to learn metric haha

and isn't bhp just the horse power of the engine without anything else no trans, pullys, alt or anything so the engine its self produces 290hp

Sorry, but I'm just doing my part to reinforce the stereotype of the "dumb inbred cousins across the pond"!!!!! lol
ok, enough of that.

So .......
----------------1957--------------2002
Manufqcture------MG------------=-=-infiniti (my stock Q45)
engine ----------1.5liter------------- 4.5liter
---------------90 cubic inches----------274 cubic inches
HP-------------290 (raw)---------------- 340 (qouted)

hp/liter ------------193------------------ 75
hp/inches----------- 3.22----------------- 1.24

In the US, the standard to beat for highperformance was 1hp for each inch.

I would say you brits were making that little MG engine SCREEAAMMMMM!!!!!!

look at the fuel mix .. TOP FUEL

+ i bet that engine did not make very many passes before it was torn down, yours will run for years.

the 65 MG production engine was 110 CID 1800 CC and at 5500 RPM put out 95 BHP .. some of those are still around running w/o a rebuild ..smoke a little and leak oil but.. running

i thought the aerodynamic attuned would enjoy that line drawing of the 57 MG landspeed car.. .. notice the difference between the 57 version and the 95 version
your post made me lookup the 65 lemans wiki ,, that MGB was on the track with GT40s[DNF] and shelby cobra daytonas .. the Daytona was in GT5 [5 L ] class the B was GT2[2L] Daytona did 304 laps the MGB did 283 .. they built half a million B's[everymans sports car] a good example is quite inexpensive ,, seen any Daytona for sale lately ? cool 1,5 mill if its a dime i bet
you have made me feel good today to remember that i am driving a car ran with the big dogs
i think if i run it at 3650 RPM 65MPH it might get decent FE
