another noob

Hi, just getting acquainted. I just bought a '89 CRX HF because I commute 110 mi. a day and my van was eating my budget. So far I'm getting about 47 mpg...saves me almost $200 a month I'm looking forward to getting to know the site and developing a plan to get my car up into the 50's mpg. 60 would be awesome. Anybody that has one of these cars, I'd like to hear what you've done and how it has worked out for you.

Welcome to EM! $200 a month is nothing to laugh at, except when you're laughing all the way to the bank. Those CRX HFs are MPG rock stars.

Welcome, 89HF. I'm getting about your mileage with my boxy Scion, so you can do a lot better with your HF. Leave 10 minutes early, and drive 10 mph slower. That will probably gain you 10 mpg. Accelerate moderately, anticipate stops and coast to them.

yea, I'll have to work on my eco driving disciplines. I have about a 2000 ft difference in elevation between home and work also. I try to coast but it's pretty hilly.

the commute is mixed: about 40 mi on the highway and another 15 across town each way. Speed limit is 65 for about 20 mi. of that.

I suggest starting to use the Garage to record your MPG between fillups.

If you have any questions do not be afraid to ask.
