Another strange Metro idea

Hey everyone. What do you think of this idea?

I have seen these Metro trucks on the internet and I was thinking of doing the same thing, except using sheet metal to make an aero cover to rear of the car. I would cut behind the "B" pillar to make sure the structure would stay sound. I would get rid of the hatch and back glass. I would most likely lose the side rear windows too. This pic is about what it would look like.

It looks like it would help aero and weight...

Looks cool and should do just what you think. Kinda reminds me of a low rider Isuzu Amigo. I would love to pound the metal for this project.

not a bad idea bit the angles are a bit ineffective i think, at least it seems to me they could be even better.

you might want to make it look more like the volvo 3cc concept perhaps

if the angle of the new roof is too steep the airflow won't stay attached. and the airflow on the sides is also very important

on the other hand this shape would promote airflow from the sides to merge with the airflow comming of the roof and while this would likely create two vortices at the sides it might also create a smaller wake than stock, and thus have overall less drag.

I like the idea! I thought of doing something similar to a full size GM station wagon. I ended up getting the pick up instead. My lack of time was the only reason I didn't do it. It would have saved me about 1000 lbs. and a whole lot of frontal area. If you need the "pick up" type space go for it. But don't do it just because you can.

The all purpose metro. The front has its possibilities. The rear could easily be changed with a few supports and a cover to do what you were talking about.

It could work! But I agree with lunarhighway - the angles in your photochop aren't quite right (too sudden a transition; too steep). Head over to the Kammback thread to use the half teardrop template to find the right combination.

second one could be a mini crx or insight.

the reason this shape is mostly avoided on hatchbacks is because it requires a sharp edge to go right trough where the rear window should be wich adds to the costs, decreases rear visibility and makes it more difficuly to place a simple wiper there. on the merto it would render the car very impractical as a 4 seater, but as a 2 seater it would be perfect

Thank you all for your input. I think to get this right would require the level of work lunarhighway is talking about. I am not set up or knowledgeable enough to make it work. I guess it's "back to the old drawing board" as Marvin would say.

Besides, Johnny is bigger than me, and I ain't lookin' for no trouble . HA Ha Ha...

just realised that last one looked a little tail heavy.... of course the aerocivic proves this doesn't have to be the case, but just for fun i thought i'd shorten it a bit...

i'd say a metro coupe wouldn't have been a bad looking car
