I'm thinking about making the aero cap belt a little longer and extending it down on the access doors. With that setup, when I open one of the doors, it releases the tension on the back end of the ducktail and will allow me to easily move the ducktail out of the way. When it's down, it keeps it tight to the ducktail.
Need to make a quick one up and see if it will work or not... ![Wink](/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)

New belt works!
Much easier to push/pull the Coroplast ducktail in/out of the cab pocket. I've slipped in some flashing pieces to keep more air out of the top. ![Wink](/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)

The Coroplast had a tendency to walk around and expose the gap and the trim flapped up into the air during the drive out to Florida. The adjustable belt tore away from the added stress about 200 miles into the drive. Had to convert the remaining piece into a static belt.
Now looking into creating an access door fer the top that will be hinged based and provide ducktail/gap coverage duties as well. This setup will eliminate the need fer a cab pocket and belt setup as everything will be based on the aero cap. I will have to lay down a landing strip where the cover will contact the cab.

Had a great idea to make my next gap cover (previously known as my ducktail) out of. Used highway signs...
Time to pull the pocket, belt, and piece of Coroplast out to work on the next design... ![Big Grin](/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

No...nothing like that. I was on the look out fer some wide thin aluminum that would be scraps...and thought of the highway signs.
I know that the attachment points will have to be able to pivot to allow flexing from the truck/cap. I will have a few trials to see what will be viable or not.
Gonna give bungee cord a try fer my hold down setup. ![Wink](/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Figured out a way do to my gap cover. I will have to move the front support bar on the hatch back behind the front attachment bolts...which will be about 6". I will also end up trimming about 2˝" from the front of the hatch so I can put in shaped bar fer the gap cover. This will allow the test cover (Coroplast) to keep it's shape and allow me to put in a vertical guide point. The guide points will be a bolt that will allow the gap cover to rise just enough to allow clearance fer the cab cover and pivot when the truck flexes.
I envision the bungee cord attached to the cover at 4 points (2 points per side) so it's a "V" shape and attached to a bar below. This bar will allow me to remove the tension with one hand and to open the gap cover from either side (driver or passenger) to deploy the cab cover. The bungee cord will provide enough dynamic tension (when adjusted properly) to keep it in contact with the cab and aero cap. A thin rubber weather strip located under the front edge of the gap cover should provide a seal against water leaking past the gap cover and down the back window.
It's gonna be fun to match the right curvature fer the gap cover to the cab/aero cap. ![Frown](/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif)

Since it was in the 70's today...moved the front support bar back and trimmed the main hatch rails...
Added in the new support piece...
Front support removed as well as trimming the main rails...
No front bar to maneuver the cab cover past any more... ![Big Grin](/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif) I still have to trim the front edge of the hatch so the gap cover will fit.

Was doing some work and test drives with the aero cap last night. Fergot to put the leading edge piece on.
The top skin to the hatch got peeled back and snapped off at 80mph. Luckily it was only about a 2x3 piece. Pulled over and accessed the damage. Slapped on the leading edge section and another quick patch on the hatch. Whew... ![Big Grin](/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
