Truthfully, the disconnect between the cost of fuel versus, say, air travel is completely lost on people. The belief that all costs are fixed is cretinous. Defense of such certainly is. Zip understanding of travel speed versus the true average speed. That's the understanding which on long trips pays the bills.

I suspect that they're victims of the British Leyland Motor Corp.' propaganda of 1974,when their blitz-ads heralded their Triumph TR7 as the "Shape of Things to Come."
They've got their logic inverted with respect to shapes. And it's quite something to overcome. We can keep trying.

That's painting with a pretty broad brush. Reddit (like Walt Whitman) contains multitudes. Have you ever seen the comments on Youtube?
I think the cretins are on Facespook. I have nothing to do 'social media', but I do follow 'moderated aggregators'. Slashdot was the first, and still has the highest quality posts, IMHO, and the best moderation system. Digg was like Reddit until they stopped accepting comments; which, you may remember, triggered a mass exodus to Reddit. Then there's Fark. 'Nuff said. I visit them all on a semi-regular basis.
Edit: Not that that has anything to do with aerocaps, so here's this:

Shape of Things to Come
Here is Triumph's shape which is alive and well today in the American mind
Here is their car
This is what's inferred, and what people today have expectations about when low drag is discussed.
Too bad!

Just drive it in reverse and it'll do pretty well.

I was deploying the cab cover at Lowe's the other day and there was a woman sitting in her husband's truck with the windows rolled down...sucking up the heat. She sat up like she won the lotto as I was gitting the cab cover secured. I could see out of the corner of my eye that she really wanted something like my cab cover. I'm sure she either came over to check it out or had her hubby check it out when he came back. Their truck was gone when I came back out. Maybe the cab cover will show up on Reddit, too!

You'll probably see it go on sale in China within a month!

Wouldn't that be something?!
Starting to rethink how my front access doors open. It's been a long time since I first installed them. I want to git away from the eye hook fastening system I have now and want to go with a sliding lock setup. I thought about a push lock setup but I want a positive lock as I don't want the access doors popping open while I'm driving. I don't want an auto air brake!
By reducing the number of steps and removal/installation of locking fasteners to open the access doors to deploy the cab cover, I should be able to deploy the cab cover in less than 30 seconds.
I also want to git away from the slots in the sides to allow the doors to open fully. I'll probably add in some 90° angle brackets so they will clear the edge of the opening. This will reduce the number of potential water intrusions in the aero cap and keep the interior dry.
I'm gonna install some FRP on the sides on top of the existing Luan panels (which is slowly delaminating) and foam the gaps with some expanding foam so I can hopefully shape it the way I need it to be.

Installed some new LED lights on the back. I think these should be brighter than before.
