i also believe ecodriver suits me more than hypermiler, i agree that "hyper" makes it sound so extreme... and after the media's positive attention on hypermiling and saving gas a few weeks later it did give the negative attention and tried to paint hypermiling as dangerous and assumed that all drivers trying to obtain high MPGs use dangerous techniques

I think I prefer, Gas Station Avoidance Systems Implementation Technician.
Sounds much more dignified, don't you think?

Or GSASIT for short? Maybe we could get ITT Technical Institute to offer a course!

Probably wouldn't work out. They would have to hire some of posters from this forum to teach it. Then we would have to pay for all the free information we get here.

This all may be true, but,
I'm a HyperMiler and D@mn proud of it.
I realized this the other day, when I was stopped coming out of a store and the elderly man asked me (after he saw my car)
"You're not one of those crazies who shuts your car off going down the road are you?"
Without thought I immediately replied ,With pride in my voice,
"Why Yes I am, would you like some tips on saving gas?"
He made some unintelligible comment as he walked off.
So
The term may be getting some bad press, cause we're all whack jobs waiting for Peak Oil Armageddon, but I'm doing the best I can with what I have.
In the For What Its Worth column
I have also had a lot of positive responses from people.
People who are genuinely interested in saving a little gas.
Gave out a Brochure on the highway to work, man then followed behind and soon we had a convoy
Gave out several at the gas pump three weeks ago and had an impromptu round table discussion with 4 drivers.
There are now three Metros in the parking lot at work and too many other econobox cars to count, Maybe I'll count them tonight.
One of my old employers (I used to be a Gypsy Technician) read the article in WY Daly and called for tips and advice.
He now is getting > 40 MPG from his Rabbit (gas), said he never got over 30 MPG before.
and broke the 25 MPG mark in his wifes Aerostar minivan, said they couldn't get over 20 Mpg before.
Every little bit helps
we need more whack jobs like us
Maybe we can change the world
One mind at a time.
Jumping off my SoapBox now,
Schultz, HyperMiler 2nd class.

Well, maybe so, but if you're doing it in a Land Rover LR3 (as I am) it seems a little .... awkward... to call it ecodriving.
