That's what I'm sayin. A BMW, made of carbon-fiber-like material, with 2 power plants, for less than $20k.

maybe your a victim of nostalgia?
Here's an early Arcimoto prototype in the Eugene Celebration few years ago. Notice the steering wheel.
Up close, the fit and finish is pretty good. Equivalent to a UTV if not show quality.

You're talking like a cager. And the FUV has twin engines.

Apparently it is important that the Ryker does not have power steering. There are not any published fuel economy figures, but someone in the Spyder forums inquired and was told:
Quote:
[T]he Ryker is doing between 5L/100km to 6L/100km (39-47 MPG) depending on 1- up or 2-up, engine size, speed, road inclines, temperatures.
|
However, two owners reported 30 - 35 MPG.
What would it get with a full fairing?

I did concede that it would be fun already, which there's hardly any point to life if you aren't partaking in.
My only point is that the price sounds absurd, especially when they originally said it would sell for $12k. Where'd the extra $8k come from? I gave examples, including that of all the vehicles I own, none have cost so much. The most I've spent on a vehicle was $17k, and that made me very uncomfortable considering the very good cars that can be had for less.

Oh, I agree the price is absurd. I blame the Federal Reserve Bank.
There're a lot of interesting vehicles one could own. I started this thread at [01-07-2013, 05:34 AM] about the KR200. They don't make those anymore. Even the company that made replicas is gone. What to do? What was I doing up at 5:30 in the morning?

Why? Are they keeping inflation too high or too low?

The price isn't absurd.
$12k is a mass production price.
$20k is a cottage industry price.
Guess where they are... they're doing exactly what people were bemoaning Elio didn't do: "Just build the damn thing!" Wait forever so volume production can start up never, or pay more for a low volume hand-built vehicle now and hope they make enough profit to upgrade equipment, suppliers, personnel, facilities later.

This is why you only get into auto manufacturing if you're insane.
