Hello. I don't think the 106 had longer ratios. Here is what I know :
The AX diesel from '89 to '92 had a 16x63 differential and 17x61 after '92 (10% longer).
The 106 had a 17x64 differential (the gearing ratios being always the same), that's just between the two from the AX.
The longest ratios available for MA gearboxes was to be found on some gasoline versions (1.1 and 1.4 I think), it's 18x62.

Because it was never mounted in the 106. It was mounted on the AX 4x4 (that had a very short differential) and on the C3/206 with the 1.4 hdi until 2002 (after that one of cogs changed slightly). 233335 and 233851 are the references.

Some pics of the 5th gear change. I swapped 43x33 to 47x32 (12,7% longer), which makes 40,8 km/h at 1000 rpm (36,2 before). It really feels amazing, as if the car would need less power to roll. The engine doesn't struggle too much either : mostly highway, no big hills, never loaded... I think the engine will be able to cope with even bigger gearing (tires).

Hello
Thank you very much for the Informations . I dont knew the Ratios from the AX exactly , i thougt my 1,4 has a 16x63 Differential like the 106 with the 1,4 Diesel. The 106 1,5 Diesel had 2 Ratios by the differential 17x61 and 17X64 , my 106 had the 17x64 .The 18x62 Gearbox has the Code CB55 but has the 5 Gear 41x35 .
The 47x32 is Amazing i will search for it .
No Big Hills , never loadad .... You Lucky Guy , my AX has somedays a Hard Work fully loaded . i must reduce the weight but at first the lowering springs .

You're right, according to the spare parts website, the earlier versions of the 1.5 (94-96) had the 17x61.
If your AX is from '93 and if the gearbox is stock, it's 17x61.
I already thought about mounting the 18x62 but it's complicated. Dismounting the whole gearbox is too much work. Or I could get a stock gearbox with 18x62 and swap the 5th gear. That would be the easiest but the problem is the gap between 4th and 5th which would be even bigger than now : +27% stock, +43% now and +55% with 18x62 and 47x32.

Cool, so you got your own 100 mpg project ? Let's see who will have the best ideas I'm happy to already have been a source of inspiration for you. Good luck !
85 mpg fillup tonight My second alltime best if I consider only relevant 800+ km fillups.
Bests :
84,99 mpg on 903,5 km
85,46 mpg on 424,3 km
85,76 mpg on 1187,6 km
87,58 mpg on 744,2 km
89,58 mpg on 479,0 km
As a reminder, only current mods are 5th gear and tires to max. sidewall pressure.

AX why you're not updating your fuel log? Last entry is from January... ;-)

I prefer the display of spritmonitor and 2 logs is too much work to keep up to date. The link is in my signature.
