Best 14" (x 5"-6") 4x100mm wheels under $100/ea?

I drive an 02 Corolla.

Right now, I have those stock generic holey-steel wheels with snow tires on them, with a second set of tires for the other 3 seasons (I have to have someone change out the tires twice a year).

Come summer, it'll be my B-Day and I've been offered a nice gift, new wheels. Which would be perfect for summer-season. I could keep the heavy-wheels with their snow tires on 'em for winter. Further cost savings since I could change out the wheels myself!

I can't really ask the Mrs. to spend more than $400 though, which is quite reasonable for rims I think.

Are Honda insight wheels the only option, or could I get something yet even lighter? It seems like nearly 12lbs/ea is great (Honda Insight), but I can find wider and taller wheels that are only 10lbs each (shown as example. I'm sure they can be found cheaper), so you'd think thinner and shorter wheels could be found lighter.

Anyway, a lot of car sites don't let you sort by weight or even list weight. And then on top of that, 14" doesn't seem to be a popular size to cater to.
I found extremely light 6-7lb 14" wheels but they cost like $600 each.

I will continue my searching, but if someone here has any ideas, I'm all ears!

I plan to put proper wheel covers on both sets of wheels.

Update: I've been searching for wheels off and on while I'm at work today, and still no luck.

I can find Honda Insight wheels (the original good ones) for about $111.00/ea before shipping. Mazda 14" BBS Alloys for 92/93 for about $200/ea (those are apparently 10lbs or less).

I can find the Volk Racing CE28N wheels for as low as $400/ea before shipping. Those are the crazy-light wheels that would fit.

Even if someday I can get the Volk's, I should at least have lighter wheels in the mean-time for cheap. By the time I can afford and excuse getting the Volk's, the cheaper wheels will have paid for themselves.

Ive heard of some guys running the miata wheels with good results. they have to have the center of the wheel machined to fit the hub on hondas though. May not be an issue for you. I wouldn't know.

I wouldn't be surprised if I have to do some mod like that. I haven't heavily considered the Miata wheels due to the price.

TireRack is high on my list now, for sites that give you the info you need.

I was able to quickly find the 14" Kosei K1 TS. They only weigh 9.3lbs and cost $119/ea.

That's basically what I suspected I could find, price/size-wise (due to other findings in the 15" dept), but for the life of me, couldn't.

The mazda miata wheels are great (design/weight/cost), except that the early '90's models might have trouble clearing the brake caliper on modern cars. I have a set of mazda wheels and I had to install 5mm hub spacers for proper fitment on my car.

Bought a set for $50 locally (2nd wheel on the list below) and restored them myself.

Using a simple spacer doesn't sound too bad.

If I can find the good deal on some like you did, that's easily the best option! I will keep my eyes peeled for that sort of thing.

The first generation Honda Civic Hybrid wheels are not as nice as the Insight, but they are still pretty flat/smooth and I hear they are around 12lb as well, a junk yard in Colorado on Car-part.com has two of them for $75 each, but if you search with your zip code you can sort by distance from you, I searched on there for a 2003 civic hybrid to pull up the photo of the wheel so I knew I was looking at the right wheel.
That is the wheel I'll most likely get as I can get a set of four for $200 driving 40 miles to pick them up.

If you are willing to step up to 15in. wheels, Rota Slipstreams and Konig Feathers are about 11lbs. 15x6.5 Konig Feathers in an assortment of colors can be found on eBay for $390 shipped to your door.

I would never spend a lot on wheels just to save some pounds. The cost of wheels and tires will be much more than your fuel savings. Try to find some used OEM wheels on craigslist. Good ideas have already been mentioned.
