Today I will have finished off the entire week on one tank of fuel, mind you thats commuting an avg of 102 miles round trip every day. I will post the actual numbers later as to actual mileage and consumption. But I will have a nice gale tail wind going home this afternoon so those numbers should be fantastic for the old 3.0L V6 OHV Vulcan!

Awesome job!! I can't believe you are doing so good in one of these Taurus' We have a few as Fleet Cars at work and they are all horrendous on gas. Mostly due to the grenade of a Transmission Ford used in them I'm sure. Those 3.0l's run forever just keep an eye on the tranny :-)
Keep up the good work!

Wow I had no idea Ford was still using the Vulcan engine in 2003. My fiancé had a 96 with that engine, only problems it had was that it ate thermostats. Engine was great, rest of the car was another story though...

We had a Windstar at work, the engine was okay but the transmission had the torque capacity of a soggy roll of toilet paper. No wonder the previous owner donated it.
No the injectors won't turn off on downhill coasts in N, so i have to stay in gear and pedal cruise ctrl on and off.
downhill slope in downtown Milwaukee headed N on I-43: N coast caps out around 57 MPG (instant) reported by Torque. Same slope coast in OD reaches up to 123 MPG (instant), both running at roughly 50-51 MPH.
now if there was only a Freeway i was comfortable driving 45 MPH safely the whole way to work.... I'm sure I could reach 35 easy, and dream of reaching 40...
Have you thought of picking up an insight? You could double your mpg and cut your fuel costs in half. I remember driving my camry to work everyday and I think i spent about 40-50$ a week in gas, but I was driving 20 miles less a day than you, so about 200 a month. With an insight at 60mpg you would save roughly 1200$ a year, and that's not adding in around town driving.
