Hybrid sports/supercar mods

Has anyone concepted or built a hybrid with the intent of the electric motors providing additional torque to an otherwise gas powered vehicle?

I’m genuinely looking to do this, but I’m not sure the best approach. Of course the simpler the starting point the better (probably don’t want to start with my Audi s4 since it’s all wheel drive with dynamic sport differential)

Any ideas or resources? I couldn’t find anything obvious by searching...

Seems pointless to me since people drive supercars on shorter trips just to be seen and to have fun. If you aren't driving long distance, then a supercar should just be all electric. It's way easier to make a ridiculously fast car that is electric.

Probably the easiest thing would be to take an AWD car and disconnect the driveline to the rear wheels, and then attach an electric motor in its place.

Either that, or take a rear-engine rear wheel drive car, chop the front end off, and attach it to a FWD hybrid.

I have looked into rear hub motors for my front wheel drive car, but not too seriously. Hub motors are no "super car" option though: not enough power and not enough speed. QSMotor's hub motors are basically limited to about 70 mph.

But I think redpoint is correct about a straight EV would be simpler and coukd be soooo quick, relatively easily.

Ever watch the Tesla Racing Channel on UTube? Here it is:

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

CRZ...though rather under-powered compared to what you're suggesting.

A transverse mid-engine with a motor squeezed in front of the engine would not mess up weight balance like it would on most vehicles.

Of course someone has:

But it will set you back a fair chunk of change.

If you're going to try this yourself, I would follow their concepts--start with a rear-wheel drive platform and add front electric motors. You can forgo the rear electric motor for simplicity's sake.

An Exige 350 can get 30mpg and tops out at around 180mph. That's supercar enough for most anybody without needing hybrid.

The ROI of any DIY hybrid is going to be very, very long.
