Think that they probably fit in the category of "Both". They are kinda large to be just for drainage (I think of something like a 1/4" hole near the back when I think drainage for these).

The irony would be if you taped up the slots and got BETTER FE. Kinda lay credence to the "Pick-up truck with the tailgate closed is more aerodynamic" argument.

Awesome thread!!

I have a 93 metro that I have done a few mods to including all pressed 18 gauge galvanized metal , kammback, grille block, mirror deletes, fender skirts ,and I have done wiper delete on passenger side. I have also went to 15 inch spare tire rims with firestone f560 tires at 45psi. I am on the first tank with the new tires so we will see how it goes. They are 2.4 inches taller Than factory and come out to a 11.2% difference. I have the xfi cam to install, but i wanted to see how the original stacked up. So far you have to be careful not to lug the engine, and i know that with the xfi cam it will bring the torque down lower in the rpms so it will make up for the taller tire. What's next for better fuel economy guys? Oh I am a new member here and so far am loving it....

ok VERY interested in this, what are the spare tire rims FROM? Im looking for the lightest narrowest rims possible and don't see that happening with Alloy wheels. The aftermarket... market is a wash and not many OEM alloys to fit the bill that will fit my car. Hell. id go with modern motorcycle rims if I could figure out how to mount them to the car (Looking at Rotating mass/Unsprung weight/ aerodynamics/rolling resistance, Cornering power not really an issue).

Keep us posted on the results! (You have your own thread(s)? sounds like you have done alot of work!)

Will the new dash be pop-up style. Vanishing into the dashboard when not in use? That would be coooool .

Thats an Idea! Wouldnt be TOO hard (Mostly depends on whats directly under the dash and how hard it would be to relocate). but It would have to be manual as the electronics involved in adding motors is well beyond me.

Well the spare tire rims are from a Nissan altima if I am not mistaken and if you find a car with 16 inch rims with a 4.5 spacing usually they have a 15 inch spare. I ran the 125-70-15 temporary s for about 4500-5000 miles on the front at 62psi. It just handled like it was on rails! I got the rims from the pull apart yards. Did you see any measurable gains from the headlight lens? I will have to get to a computer I can't figure out if I can upload a picture on this iPhone . Ultra- orange pm your number and I will send some pics or whoever else wants to see the areo mods
