Woke up about 4am today. Tried to ignore the fact that I was awake and pretended to sleep for another hour or so. Gave up and decided that today I would finally tuft test the "New" Kambak.

So. Drove around a bit, bought skinny ribbon instead of Yarn, Tape. a 12' USB extension cable for my web-cam.

made some tufts, taped them to the kambak. Couldnt get the Webcam to work on my laptop. at first I thought it was software. but I think it expired at some point this winter. Plan B, Tried to set up my Digital Camera. For some reason I cant find my mini-data cable to hook my Camera to the Laptop. Think it got "Loaned" to my son and never came back. Finally decide to just set the Digital camera up to record, and duct taped it to a broom handle taped on the back bumper. Of course at that point my neighbor showed up needing a ride. So 45-hour later I finally got to tuft test.

Results? Almost NO movement on the first run (A sprint to 50, coast down to 45 and held 45) the second run (sprint to 50 and held 50) there is SLIGHT movement at 50 MPH. Is that laminar airflow? Can you say "good enough for me?"

Ill post vids after I get a new Mini-data cable.

"Beavis, this is the greatest day of our lives".

gonna start looking more seriously at the salvage yards this summer. no eco mods yet on my plain jane 1st gen 4dr, 3cyl, simply driving technique. cams are $13, and trannies are $50. just gotta get one that hasn't been torn apart yet (it appears there is a metro parts hound that goes around pulling all the best goodies 1st).

metro parts are getting harder to find. fewer metros on the road and lots of demand for the parts that wind up in the scrap yard. Get in good with your local yard and see if you can get one of the guys to call you when they get a new metro.

When it comes down to it. mod choice comes down to what your commute is like. If you drive mostly in the city at speeds under 35-40 MPH then Areo mods are going to have almost no effect. If you drive mostly on the highway, the chances to use Hypermilling techniques are at a minimum. That said. Both are always worth while, as long as they are effective. Keep a fuel log. Monitor changes to the car and your technique. Make notes on what changes you make and what effects it has.

The single best piece of advice I can give is "Don't be in a hurry. Ever." this will pay dividends both in fuel costs and in personal health.

Best of luck and keep us posted!

Thanks! Pull'n Save has 2 wrecking yards around town... I work next to one, and live near the other. My uncle works for another 'import only' yard too.

My problems stem from lack of motivation on this car thus far. I have quite a few other project cars... one being a '69 Jeepster. Trust me... Metros are eezy peezy to find parts for compared to that thing.

Its my happy birthday update!

Done some finessing to the existing mods, mainly making them fit better and sealing them with duct tape!

Remounted the gauge pod so it sits more level, also covered it with "recycled" car carpet for a more finished look, Need to invest in some spray adhesive so it will fit better / more securely.

Its my grandson Mega-Orange! No he doesn't improve my gas mileage but I had to include a pic anyways!

So there ya go! best of luck to everyone!

Too bad you can't use "cute" to power the car, you'd get a whole lot of miles from that one!!
