100%. It functions fine except that I don't know how to get back into the setup!

EDIT: left and right buttons at the same time fixed it, going to put it in its box now

EDIT: I forgot the 220ohm resistor, but the brightness controls seem to work fine. Is that ok?

resistor limits maximum current to display backlight. If you set it to maximum brightness then it maybe overheats...but when using dimmer backlight, then you probably dont have a problem.

Resistor limits current from arduino to backlight controlling transistor. If it’s not installed it might overload arduinos processor and baclight controlling transistor. Overloading can happen regardless of backlight brightnes as long as its on and can result in damaging both the transistor and processor. So install the resistor before you use it.
