Probably more like standard springs weren't enough, we will just do two without adding more leaves qnd making it much stiffer

Adding all the leaves to one single pack on each side would have more downsides than anything else. But anyway, makes me wonder if, instead of 2 leaf spring packs on each side, auxiliary coil springs like those which used to be offered as an accessory for the Ford Model T.

Having tried and failed at it, the coil spring add on involved a ton of mods because the pockets for the springs have to be wicked strong and shaped to constrain the spring when compressed

Didn't look like a lot of spare space between the spring and frame so you're going to need a really high rate spring which increases mounting issues.

That's a Nissan B140, better known in South Africa as Nissan Bakkie. But I spotted this one in Aceguá, Uruguay.
