I have already seen small cars towing, but none seemingly as small as that Scion...

Where I live it's mostly 5th-wheels, with a paved lane.

I'm pretty sure that's a Seadoo trailer.

The jet ski probably has more power than the car does!

Recently while talking to a friend who moved to Europe, I told him maybe it would make more sense to buy a trailer instead of building a house, as it wouldn't require a building permit.

Just as a quick comment (I just couldn't read through 900+ replies) I know the OP wasn't about small trucks, but son of a gun they can be efficient and haul stuff too. I post on a Ranger forum and all I hear is "If you're worried about mileage then you should buy a small car." Then they all laugh. When I link to my Garage fuel logs they can't believe I get the mileage I do. It's a shame that when I try and share how I have done it, no one over there seems to care. Their loss. I love my little truck and don't think I could ever switch to a small car and trailer combo.

I have owned three vw caddys, all with the 1.6 litre diesel engines. 2 naturally aspirated ones, consumption was 5L/100km, one with turbo 5.5L/100km.
And this was without hypermiling. So yeah, not all pickups are thirsty
