Car puts out 'Crazy low' C02... Mod responsible?

I have had my first car, a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme for 6 years now. How exciting... haha. It's actually been a solid, good car, believe it or not- but surely nothing special. There is however one notable thing about it- Every time I've ever gotten emissions done, the emissions are both extremely 'clean' and low in c02- one tester told me that It tested right about where a hybrid does, and most times they make some sort of remark about it.

The previous owner took great care of the car, and I would not be at all surprised if he had eco-modded it in some way. Are there mods to reduce C02?

Also, are there beginner mods that I can have done to create some MPG gains? I already drive quite eco friendly- maintaining momentum, low revs, minimal braking, etc- but I would like to know if there are some low investment things to be done for economy. I have already removed a bit of weight- maybe 75 pounds- I keep tires properly inflated, windows closed whenever possible, no A/C (don't have it, haha) so which things could come next?

Thanks-

CO2 is directly related to fuel used. Are you getting hybrid like milage?

.

Welcome.

It sounds like your cars engine management system is working as designed.

Here's some low hanging fruit. (low investment)

Partial grill block.

Inflate tires 44 to 50psi. Check the sidewall of tire for suggested max.

Install a vacuum gauge and try to maintain highest reading when at cruise. Or better yet, install a MPGuino. Instant feedback is very important in order to refine your skills.

You know it's funny, I'm getting about what the prius does fuel economy wise, a few days ago when I had my smog done, the tech said something similar as the OP got told about co2 emissions. That makes me feel good my fuel system is working great .

Are you sure they are not confusing CO and CO2?

Exactly. AFAIK, no emissions test measures CO2, because (as others have already pointed out) the amount of CO2 emitted is directly proportional to fuel burned. Things that are measured, typically unburned/partially burned hydrocarbons (HC), oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO), are generally measured in parts per million, while CO2 is probably on the order of 20% (assuming complete combustion of the oxygen in the intake air).

That is what I thought.
I only thought of this because last few shops I have worked at that did CO tests on heat exchangers that contained combustion wrongly had their CO detectors mislabeled as CO2 detectors.
It was the same identical industry standard CO detector each time and the fact that the machine its self was clearly labeled as and I quote " CO (Carbon Monoxide) detector" and the manual clearly stated it was a carbon monoxide PPM detector and I told them it was labeled wrong it still didn't get fixed.
They were using it correctly as a CO detector at least.
But the wrongly labeled CO detector is right next to the confined space CO2 detector. Hopefully no one confuses the 2.....
