It took me 2 years of looking to find the Prius I want at the price I want. I went through periods of checking twice per day, and periods of checking once per week. My Prius was finally found after a long stretch of not looking. Of course, gas prices were very low at the time, so inventory might have built up when I looked.

Now I'm on my 2 year quest to replace my Acura TSX with an EV. I might check the ads once per week. I'd hate to see the TSX go, but love to plug in an EV.

Fortunately, I'm not in a hurry. (Best time to shop for a car is when you don't need one.)

Xist: You're right. I never went past the sign-up page because it was misleading. (It said the search would apply only to my town, despite wanting a much wider search radius.)

I have seen people driving cars in a worse shape than this. Not Priuses, though.

I quit reading at "DAMAGES ... TO ENGINE"

---

Not a Prius, but...

I went past the boneyard of the local GM dealer today and spotted an ~'07 Camry hybrid in the back. Sporting several sizeable scrapes & small dents (senior citizen owner is my guess -- we got plenty around here). Seemed like a good candidate, so I went inside to ask about it.

Already sold!

1-month drought

Amazing: we're approaching the 5th week of No Prius Deals. Maybe Prius sellers take the summer off. Prior to this drought, there was about one each week.

At this point I'm about to begin looking for anything decent to serve as a winter beater. I probably would have bought a nicely priced, low kilometers 2003 Civic sedan 5-speed this weekend, but (surprise!) it had sold by the time I contacted the seller.

I'm sure the day after I pick up a something-something 5-speed beater, a pile of C.R.A.P. Priuses will start turning up!

So prime the pump and drop a couple hundred on a beater. Then you'll be two weeks away from your dream car!

Buy it right, sell it right, make a few bucks to pay for gas-ins. Trouble here is it's getting a lot more expensive to title and register. Cost $131 title and tag a trailer that cost $175.

Add to that 13% sales tax in Ontario, plus mandatory mechanical safety inspections and emissions testing and it gets even harder just to break even!

(Though a Prius -- any hybrid -- would be exempt from the e-test)
