Is that a Russian design, or did VW help?
I found the Ecomodder Cd list.
Vehicle Coefficient of Drag List - EcoModder
Many more vehicles above 0.30 than below 0.30, but you can almost segregated them by age of design.
If that Vaz really is 0.30, it was a stellar example of aerodynamics back in 1995, and quite exceptional.
Handsome too.
EDIT-1
Looking at the Ecomodder Cd list, I could draw an conclusion that European models (in general) were about 15 years ahead of US models (in general) in terms of Cd.
And you could categorize most Japanese models excluding the Prius/Insight hybrid lines as lagging behind Europe too, but at a decade at best.
What I'm saying is that a 2000 Audi and a common 2016 US car have about the same Cd.
And that a common 2006 Japanese model and a common 2016 US car have about the same Cd.
Was US automotive legislation apparently ineffective or stagnant during the Bush/Cheney years?

Full Russian design. Was produced til 2010 and following model Priora is mainly designed on it.

But it's really, really hard on the budget nowadays to get both good safety and low CD.
I am afraid my dear VAZ would crumble pretty much if it went head-on to that bolt or worse, only crumple a little and all that stopping force impacted on me

Typically people argue that good safety means extra weight, which in turn is at odds with good mpg.
Please feel free to further explore the relationship of aerodynamics to safety.
I'm interested in this angle or line of thought.

Although a relatively poor Cd is disappointing, for EV's with a rated range of less than 200 miles, how much highway cruising do you actually expect to be doing? And without access to Tesla's supercharger network?
Seems to me that EVs are mostly city vehicles at this point, making Cd one of the less important factors.

Lots of commuters live on highways and have round trips of well under 200 miles.

I agree, suburban commuters with less than 40 miles one way is the mean average they say.

Cd 0.32
Cd 0.32 is interesting to consider in light of the Cd 0.24 Bentley Bentayga ICE SUV.
