yea i was reffering to the different body harness hondork was talking about.

the vx transmission swap sounds like a really good idea, cost effective too. has anyone ever done it to their dx or si? would it just be a straight swap? theoretically it should work since it's still onto a d-series engine. theoretical stuff doesnt always work in practice though. i just want to know what works and what doesnt before i start dumping money on stuff. thanks BROS.

VX/CX trans is direct fit. Gear correction factors will be off in the ecu, but you shouldn't notice any adverse effects

"gear correction factor" I think he meant the speedometer might be off a bit. no big deal.

When looking for a VX, make sure that is really what you are getting. The VX is the easiest so swap in speed oriented vtec motors. This was a very desirable thing before the kids moved on the K series swaps.

If you are not mechanically inclined as you say, don't even think of doing a engine swap. Have the transmission swapped over and focus more on aeromods, etc.

well not completely mechanically clueless. ive done a d15b into my cousins ex before but it was a straight drop in and plug though. the mechanical part is easy. its the electrical that im concerned with, harness(if it shared the same harness as the ex and si i wouldn't be concerned) and stuff you know?

im going to pick up the transmission and other misc. parts to do the swap on tuesday. its hard to find all the stuff for the swap like the egr box thing and the harness. i think im just gonna do the tranny swap for now until i can collect all the right parts to do it properly.

buying one would be so much easier but i think the swap is do-able(and cheaper).

For super details on the actual swap, take a look at my writeup here: crxMPG - Gas mileage never looked so good CRX D15Z1 (Civic VX) Fuel Economy Swap Guide

But basically, it's like a normal swap except you'll be adding some plugs for the o2 sensor, vtec, etc.

Also, if you're talking about putting the hydraulic CX/VX transmission into the 88-91 body, you're going to have nothing but pain and trouble with it. I'd advise against. Just get an HF transmission.

The ecu knows what gear the transmission is in and makes timing/fueling (either or both, forget which) adjustments accordingly, but I probably shouldn't have mentioned it.

thanks svoboy. the original plan was to do this swap into a crx shell but i figure.... i already have a dx hatchback and i like seating 5 passengers. so are you running the hf instead of the vx tranny? good job on your insight btw.

greasemonkee, i just learned that you did this swap to basjoos car. he said that you've done it numerous times so..... do you mind if i get your number in a PM to clarify a few things regarding the swap?
