I say replace coal fired power plants with nuclear until there is just enough fly ash to meet demand for asphalt and concrete.

Why do we have so many gigantic fly ash storage sites? How will we clean up all the heavy metals and poisons from the water around them?

It's worse. There's also Pet Coke (petroleum coke)

https://grist.org/news/piles-of-tar-...ng-people-off/

Quote:
This coke can either be fuel grade (high in sulfur and metals) or anode grade (low in sulfur and metals). The raw coke directly out of the coker is often referred to as green coke.[1] .... The calcined petroleum coke can be further processed in an anode baking oven to produce anode coke of the desired shape and physical properties. The anodes are mainly used in the aluminium and steel industry.

Petcoke is over 90% carbon and emits 5% to 10% more carbon dioxide (CO2) than coal on a per-unit-of-energy basis when it is burned. As petcoke has a higher energy content, petcoke emits between 30 and 80 percent more CO2 than coal per unit of weight.[4] The difference between coal and coke in CO2 production per unit of energy produced depends upon the moisture in the coal, which increases the CO2 per unit of energy – heat of combustion – and on the volatile hydrocarbons in coal and coke, which decrease the CO2 per unit of energy.

Yeah and we have people on here talking about how wonderful chinas communist government is.

The last cold snap hit I burned anthracite coal for 2 days.
No visible smoke from my coal furnace at any time and only briefly smelled sulfur once after loading about 20lb of coal.
20 pounds of anthracite burns all night.

True. What isn't mentioned is that those power plants are replacing individual households burning coal to heat and cook. I'll take a thousand coal power plants over millions of coal stoves any day.

The same can be said about nazi germany. They got things done too.

And right here on page 12. Aero head praises the commie government and JSH says a lot has changed since Mao.
Not that much has changed, just fewer public executions now you really have to screw up to get shot in front of everyone. At any given time they are 1 or 2 people away from a massive purge that will make the third Reich look like a mean prank.
