Cobalt Conversion

I've read a lot of the threads regarding conversion to EV. How would one go about converting to a parallel hybrid that can recharge via plug in or regenerative braking? I would like to develop a way to utilize both so I can recharge via whichever method is convenient and not based on recharge stations. Does anyone have any threads on reasonable DIY regenerative braking that could easily integrate into the hybrid system?

The speed controller for many evs include regen braking. The problem is you cant have and eat your cake. You never break even. Second lead acid battery do not charge instantly, but its just a surface charge and quickly dissipates. In many cases you are causing more harm than good and just evaporating the electrolyte from the rapid dumping of power into the cells if its lead acid.

You can use a generator, but those arent as efficient as a cars engine hooked to a gen set.

The first step is to find some equipment that'll do what you want (regenerative braking), so you'll want a permanent magnet DC motor and a controller that does regen, or an AC motor and controller that does regen. Second, you have to find a way to hook it up to your drivetrain in a way that allows you to disconnect the gas engine from the wheels or transmission. It won't be easy, thats why we don't see many on the road.
