The only times I have seen bears were either in a zoo or in a circus and from a safe distance.

That would be the best way. They can get cranky and they cover a lot of ground very fast.

My son just sent a picture of the first accessory for his new pick-em-up truck:

It's a compromise, the instructions say you can't drive around with it up. I'd say "challenge accepted".

Honestly I'd never expect a son of yours to drive a stereotypically-American full-size truck, even though the Chicken Tax prevented the VW pick-ups to become more widespread there.

Children often reject their parent's values. At least he's a workaholic like I was. I'm surprised it's not black, like his Dodge SRT-8.

He rode around in this when he was in high school. (And the one in my profile pic in grade school) Probably made a promise to himself to never do that.

The payment on that thing is twice my rent! I'm trying to convince him to spray it Camo Green Plastidip... to preserve it's resale value. Then when Porsche and Tesla have pickups on the market he can just trade up to [whichever] one of them.

Not so sure about that. My dad is a retired Brazilian Air Force sergeant, and even though I didn't follow his footsteps I believe a good amount of my personality has been influenced by the years prior to his retirement when we lived in 3 military housing complexes (one in a city near Porto Alegre, other in Manaus and finally in Florianópolis where he got retired).

Maybe he felt somewhat embarassed, but little did he know old rusty Beetles would become cool someday...

I'm still trying to please my parents and they're both gone.

He's like me in other ways — workaholic.

Mine are still alive, but I don't even try to please them anymore.

I feel like both of my parents have always wanted things, but they did not necessarily demonstrate a desire to be happy. The grammar is weird because Dad passed a few years ago.

When I try to do what Mom said she wanted she invariably complains, but I say that people do not know what they want. In "Wild at Heart," John Eldredge says that women do not actually want nice guys, because Mister Rogers and Captain Kangaroo are nice guys. They want Prince Charming.

I believe that people do not even say what they think they want, they give some version of it that spares feelings, is more socially appropriate, or whatever. Do they exaggerate what they feel for effect or perhaps another reason? Who knows?! I cannot even get people to explain why people use punctuation the way they do!

Out of respect to the OP, I'd take it to The Lounge.
