Converting Lead Acid to Lithium Ion

Hi.
I am new to this site and thought I'd chime in. Chris Freyman was on here years ago... I recently bought his 1983 Rabbit Cabriolet. He had designed his own battery charger, motor controller and instrumentation. As I convert to Lithium, I have perfectly good items that I paid for, but can't use. Some were designed and shared on this site. Will sell reasonably.

Battery Charger for lead acid, 120VDC, 10 battery system. Fully documented. Built well, works perfectly. 3 charging modes.

A "Cougar LCD Instrumentation Board" showing 4 screens of info + 1 screen for programming. Fully documented. Used to show amps, temps etc. Google the name to read about it.

I am installing 96 lithium batteries... 48 series string of 2 in parallel. Giving me 144 Volts, 200 aH. + Orion BMS + TCCH battery charger. I will have bluetooth instrumentation on tablet or phone.

That's it for now. Thanks

This definitely looks like an interesting project.

Wow - do I understand this correctly? -
You're setting up 48 pairs of 3V, 100AH cells, so each pair is 200AH.
Putting the 48 pairs in series gives (nominally) 144V.

That's a lot of cells! And they're not small. Should be a very nice pack.

I suggest you post your offer in our "Fossil Fuel Free" sub-forum.
I would guess that anyone on this site interested in battery projects of that size will go there regularly. Fossil Fuel Free - Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com

Good luck with both building and selling!

I used a pack of 4x 3.2V 40AH LiFePO4 cells in series, to power headlights and fans on my gas powered Civic and Accord. It weighs in at 16.2 lb. including a small BMS. Looks like your 96-cell pack will weigh in at something like 700 lb!

Battery weight

I chose this battery pack..
1. Because motor is rated for 144VDC. I wanted max performance.
2. I wanted around 100 mile range.

The ten Lead Acid traction batteries weighed 660 lbs. My 96 Lithiums weigh 422 lbs. and consume 1 cubic foot less volume. I also removed steel angle iron battery restraint frames and will use aluminum angles.

I am shopping for BMS and charger right now.

Thank you for the hint on where to post. I was surprised not to find a section for classifieds on this site.

We do have a "For Sale" section.
It's under "Classifieds"

For Sale - Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com

But I stay committed to my suggestion to post it in the Fossil-Fuel-Free section. I think that's where anyone knowledgeable on such things will be hanging out.
