Store energy without batteries?

Hydraulic accumulators.

Up to 99% efficient. No battery system can approach that, and they never will be capable of approaching that near perfect percentage.

Been promoting that here for close to 4 years.

Nope, not that, although those are pretty cool. That's what UPS has been using in their hybrid delivery trucks. The regen brakes are those trucks are supposed to be fantastic because of it.

My guess would be flywheel electric storage. That would seem a good match to a shovel's duty cycle.

Ive seen those shovels before and typically they are electric powered by a big extension cord that has a tradational front end loader managing it. Its either powered on site by the generator the coal is being dug for or its got a power plant. I thought electric was as efficient as it got, why does it need to be powered by fuel, then converted to a hybrid?!?!?!?!

It uses vacuum as storage. Remember how all those free energy scams use a vacuum to get free energy from anotehr universe?

Electric is very efficient, but producing electricity isn't also that good. Maybe in some cases it's more cost effective (though maybe not more efficient from a global energy consumption perspective) to have fuel powered machines that can be moved from one place to another, rather than building a small power plant at every site. Also, power plants get less efficient as they get smaller.

Wow, never thought Id see efficiency take a back seat to economy.

I know the bigger the diesel engine is the more efficient it, of course we are taking on the scale of a 2 story home alone for the engine size.

Not sure if anyone followed this, but since we are speaking or large efficient machines Art Bell the former host to Coast to Coast AM had wire ran around his property to make one large antenna. Upon finishing this project it didnt quite work as an antenna as it was generating 400 volts. I bet a mining site would be wrapped with some wire and use the power generated to offset the needs of the equipment.

It's gotta be capacitors. I read an article ages ago (I THINK in Popular Science) about electric buses that use capacitors, so that only a part of their route needs to be electrified. They just drive between electrified neighborhoods on regular roads. Gives bus route planning a lot of flexibility.
