That's a pretty crazy one: That any particular type of car has predominantly safe drivers. Most Prii that I see are in the left lane doing 80 MPH when traffic allows. And often, when it doesn't.
Of course, that makes Prii more or less identical to all the other cars on my local roads.

Prius drivers have gone nuts around here. Since about a month ago, they've been passing me in my turbo like I'm standing still!

~The A/C doesn't really use that much gas at city speeds. It's just a myth.

Buy our wonderful NEW car that saves you money as it gets 35mpg! (lol!)
As per the SILENT car/pedestrian issue: a simple solution..... Have a factory or after market PEDESTRIAN PUSH BUTTON that is as easy to find and use as 3 way flashers.
A small speaker is mounted under the hood. When the helpful noise is needed, a per government level decibal level sound emits for 10seconds.
The sound?? I'm thinking of Steve McQueen's Mustang in BULLIT where he blips the gas a few times waiting for the taxi to clear the intersection, before he lays it on starting to chase the Charger! Nothing unreasonable, but enough anyone could pick up on.... How about any V8 with a loping cam sound?? The early part of drag racers raising their RPM'S just prior to launch???
Here around Portland, many want to ride the Prius green wagon in a snobby way, w/o ever one moment's notice to driving green in a literal way. I'm tailgated by Prius's and Metro's just as often as any thing else!!!

With 1973 vintage rolling stock. I'm willing to bet that the engineers have been active since then, though!

HA! Vindicated! Ever since Prii came out I've had the observation that a lot of them are driven like they're stolen. Oh well, those leadfoots probably traded in Subdivisions and Exploders to be early adopters and wear the "green label" proudly, and mashing it in a Prius does a lot less damage.
