Give him a MPGuino or something like that. Achievement will only yield satisfaction with proof.

It is carburated. I'm trying to get him to give me the miles and gallons so I can keep a fuel log for the car, but he will forget chances are.

Update: I sold him on the thinner oil, cardboard upper grill block, and lawn edging air dam.
If I can get the transmission to allow TC lockup sooner, that would help FE.
I have the FSM for the car open on my desk right now.

My father drives a 1991 Corolla with the 4A-FE. Auto as well. You can adjust the shift points by playing with the trans cable. Don't go too far, or it won't automatically kickdown for hills, passing etc. As far as I know, the lockup is mechanical and internal to the trans. Nothing I did changed the lockup speed. I think it was around 53 MPH?
If it's a 3-speed like my father has, slowing down makes a big difference. 3500 RPM at 65 MPH!

4 speed. Was a 3 speed, but transmission died so he replaced the engine and transmission since it was a bit smokey at 250k (I blame 15W40 and routine starting below freezing)
FSM says that the TC locks up at as low as 44 mph.

That reminds me, when I put a different carb on my Bel Air, it didn't have the hookup for the kickdown... that was 13 years ago, still haven't hooked the kickdown cable up to anything. Don't need to; if I need to downshift (rarely) I do it with the shift lever.

RedDevil's right: he needs to keep records.
Or, if you're willing to, I suppose that's fine. Then post them on his fridge

The hard part is getting the data. If I have the miles and gallons, it is easy.

Got him to start logging data. I'll shoot him a link for this site.

The easiest way to get him to log the data is to ask him to write the odometer reading on the gas receipt. Then give the receipts to you. You can figure out the data from that.

I got a tank card that asks me (the pump does, obviously) to log the odometer. Point is that's easier to do after than before filling up, as it is not the setting I want to look at all the time when driving.
So I always fill in I'm driving another vehicle than my own to skip it. And write the number on the receipt when I get back in the car...
The thing that bugs me is why the card asks me in the first place, as I pay my own fuel and own my own car ???
Still could be useful to someone, somewhere, in some parallel universe.
