Well consider this. The MSPs (this is the McParliament not the UK one) sat for the first time for 300+ years when it was opened. So you think maybe they would pass something worthy of the historical occasion as their first law or even their first debate ?

Nope.

The first vote was to give themselves the same salary and expenses as UK MPs.

On the good side though they realised early on that the system was broken and open to corruption and revised it. Not enough though.

nNew annoyance..

Folk who start a "Politics" thread to keep their threads free, then start with politics in their own threads

I'm inclined to agree with you- we're at a nice impass the now in the UK- be interesting to see what way each of the Devolved Parliaments (inc Westminster) jump..

Yep - The McGov is being clever in it's relations with the uk.gov - Alex is a pretty sharp operator whether you (as in anyone reading this) agree with him or not.

Yeah Its going to be interesting times here. couple it with the Eurozone crisis and you may see a lurch towards nationalism and a reduction in supranational powers..

anyway, misery for me today is realisation that there's till over 2 full weeks worth of work to do prior to me going on holiday!

Except that for most of us, this isn't politics, it's learning about other cultures.

Besides, I don't think bashing the whole McParliament/Congress counts as politics, just applying good common sense to current affairs. It's when you descend to supporting one faction or another that it degenerates to politics.

Right on. Power corrupts, and these guys EVERYWHERE are prime examples of it. It is so interesting to meet people and learn about different cultures.

The problem is politicians, not politics- Congress sucks no matter who is in charge. At least Parliaments have the redeeming virtue of being entertaining about it.

But in the interest of transatlantic rivalry, I'm going to put things straight: Our politicians suck more than yours!
