I stand corrected. I was going to laugh at your idea of government being expensive, but then I realized that you've got us by percentage.

We've got the same debt / capita as you guys
So our politicians suck at least as bad as yours.
Total debt 351,479,970,934 EUR which is like 505,674,234,000 USD, to be spread over some 10.8 million poor souls makes 46800 USD/capita, which is within a few 100 USD of what every American has.
Scary numbers ...

What people used to do with guns and swords, they now do with words and pen and paper. That is the nature of all politics. This is seen by some as progress. But it depends on how you define 'progress'. Politicians only take power to a different (higher) level. It is merely a matter of degree.
"All politics is local" - Tip O'Neill
He also said: "Before six PM it's all politics." (But after six PM, in the bar room, all politics is the same if you are politically powerful, no matter which party you belong to.)
(Those of you 'on the other side of the pond' can look these quotes up for yourselves.)

I had to disassemble my clothes dryer to remove the remains of a deceased mouse who had decided to move into the exhaust system of my dryer, and expire. After 5 hours and 1/2 gallon of Clorox, my dryer no longer reeks of rotting flesh.

Yet another advantage to my solar-powered clothes dryer, AKA the good old-fashioned clothesline :-)

Pro being the opposite of Con, 'progress' is usually defined as being the opposite of 'Congress'.

That used to be one of mine, worse yet that I lived in a semi-detached house and the confounded dogs were on the other side of the wall.

Ah, now that for me is not an annoyance, but a soothing gentle sound. Then again I live about 3 linear miles from the tracks, on the other side of the hill!

I helped my dad move his dryer so that he could liberate a chipmunk who thought the outside vent might make a good home, and fell down the chute into the back of the dryer. After that one ran out, we took a look in there and found 3 more, quite dessicated. I have no idea why nobody ever complained about the stink...
