Speaking of insurance...
Since the Wife and I like to hike in the mountains, and since in some countries hikers are required to have special insurance, we decided to become members of an Austrian mountaineering club, the yearly membership of which includes insurance for hiking in any mountains up to 5000 meters elevation (this summer we may climb the 5033m
Mount Kazbek). This membership isn't cheap (60€/person), but we got a deal (~100€/family), and we've saved at least 30€ so far on discounts in mountain refuges, not to mention how much we've saved on not buying insurance for each trip.
