I bought my Insight with almost exactly 50K miles on it (IIRC it rolled over when I was driving it home), and the previous owner(s) had averaged about 50 mpg (according to the onboard gauge. I reset it, and it's been showing around 71 mpg ever since. So I figure my driving style is worth an extra 20 mpg.
And of course there are people who can squeeze 80+ mpg averages out of one.

Old boy got a new car on my advice..
a 2004 520i with leather/air con/cruise elec seats etc, only 32000 on the clock.
Got it from a Hyundai dealer of all places- he was keen to shift it on as it was making the main stock look a bit bland..
We paid £1500 UNDER book for a car with 80000 on it..
Pick it up on Saturday, as having a few bits attended to.
best of all, its a 6 pot

I ventured over to a Hyundai website to discuss the i10 Blue (it has free tax due to low CO2 rating and 65MPG+ rating so its on my list). I asked about MPG.
One answer - "The official figures are for shows only, you'll never match them..."
I did consider linking to my ecomodder sig but decided just to remove the i10 from the list instead.

So I bought a can of BG 44k fuel cleaner (they call it power enhancer) to try.
It's been sitting on my dresser for about a week or maybe more. So, my ma got a bit tired of seeing it - and the handy funnel I purchased - so she decided to neaten up...The funnel is now neatly tucked away in the corner of my room. The fuel cleaner: fresh out of the fridge.
She's farsighted, and couldn't read any of the text on the can. Admittedly, the little tab on the top makes it look a lot like some sort of power energy drink, like she said.
No harm done. Nobody would've consumed it anyway considering how well labeled it is.
I think the 44k is history though - I don't think it was intended to be stored at such low temps. I can't be mad though for something this small though.

A couple of months ago, I attended the first day of a three day car swap meet. As I was taking the shuttle bus toward where my car was parked, we got all bogged down in Friday afternoon traffic.
I had some materials to return to the library that I wanted to turn in on time THAT DAY so I wouldn't have to make a second near 50 mile trip the next day.
We were getting nowhere fast, so I asked the driver if he would let me out, but at first he refused, saying it was between regular stops. After we sat some more, he relented, and left that bus in the dust just by walking. Later, when I got to about 1/4mile from my car, checking my watch, I started running a little faster than a jog.
I knew some other backroads around the traffic issue, and made for the library. I kept watching the clock....the challenge was out....it was like I was living a video game!
I have had past experience in time-distance rallies, so I was all fired up!
I was still driving for mileage too, but really super concentrating on racing lines and smoothness.
With 2 blocks to go, I actually slightly accelerated like regular people do, time was running out! For my comfort, I drive in socks.
When I got parked, I stuffed my shoes on w/o taking the time to tie them! I came blowing through the front door about 30 seconds before they were about to lock it!
I got a dirty look initially from the librarian behind the counter, thinking I was in poor taste, and would keep them overtime! But I turned in my stuff, picked up some holds that were waiting for me, and returned to him in seconds. When he saw that I wasn't going to hold him up at all; his whole attitude changed; and I was giggling inside like a schoolgirl; because I had just won my race!!!
