I have only found pieces of the fuel burning hmmwv coolant heater on ebay, mainly the oil pan that has a port and passages to allow exhaust from the coolant heater to be used to warm the oil pan.

Maybe they were take offs.
I saw them on ebay back around 2009 so they could all be long gone by now.

Found the parts you were talking about.
This may be it ...pg 118 Figure 365. Arctic Kit, Pan Cover and Heater Tube.
Part #A looks to be what I had in mind
The predecessor the previous TM was uninstalling was a SWINGFIRE HEATER a type of pulsejet.

5 kilowatts times 12 volts is 60 Amps. Check my math. My living module has a 20 Amp service panel. ???
Why not get a 2nd hand heat pump out of a late-model Leaf and trigger it with a laser pointer from your living room window (for example).

The metric system uses kw as water heating units where north America uses British thermal unit.
It burns gas or diesel for heat. Uses 12v to power the whole process.
5kw is around 18,000btu/hr.

Teoman .
Thats a realy good price at $ 550 +58 shiping from mainland china to the states. Theas units run above $1000 new +install kit /controler. This one appers to be new. =better dill than my used 24vdc unit.with a toggle switch at 500+ a 3 amp dc-dc.
As to diy from first post:

Original idea was an instant hot water heater running propane and a 12V pump. Theas heaters are flow activated. So a check valve/isolation solenoid would be needed to prevent heater activation from the engine.

If you have power available at evry spot you stop an electric instant water heater and small pump. Googal has 21 choices under $200 evan a 115v at $89

Your math is close you forgot the fuel ...72w + .11 ga of diesel /gas / kerosene = 5kw is correct you see diesel has over 139000btu . 1w = 3.xx btu.

?How many 50# groop31 batteries aer required at $125 ea??. to heat 4galons of water and a 1000# engine from 40 below 0°fto operating. And start this engine? (Keep in mind that a battery has only about 5-10% of its CCAwhen new at this temperature ... lithium battery is not able to be charged till spring so lead is the only option. . I ass-umed it was all electric. And I forgot the heat pump would require a boost circuit.
And... it's a space heater. I keep forgetting some engines require water.
