Are you sure you really can't change all the lights for LEDs?

Yes, that is an easy fix. But realy, how mucht time is a blinker on? So how much amps are you saving? I aim not going for an alternator delete, only for lower draws, so the electric heaters can work better.

For the low beams I aim pretty shure that I wont pass the anual car inspection with those being leds...

I tested yesterday how bright the front fog lights are. Those are 27W light bulbs. The low beams are 55W light bulbs. So if i can change the fog lights to high power led lights (so it outputs like a 55W one) then it is ok. The light patern is a bit whider but almost the same distance. If i did the convertion then i would run the parking lights and the fog lights to save amp draw from the alternator.

Even though you didn't see a quick rebate of the investment, at least your mods have other practical benefits, haven't them?

Absolutely.

I aim always driving with a big smile. Especialy when i look at the fuelgauge, how much km there still are in the tank

The lower highway speed is compensated by leaving 5 minutes earlyer.

All the stress of driving to work is gone.
I aim a lot happier now.
No more stress, like, aaahrrrggg that dude in front of me is driving to slow (5a10km/h under the speedlimit that is 3a6mph)

Hey, and if it goes like this. The payback is a little more then a full year. I can live with that

Even if it takes 2 full years to have a zero. It is still worth it.
I aim planning on driving this car for at least another 4 years. Then it will have around 250000km on the clock. Maybe i will drive it 6 years = until 300000km...

I dont know. It depends on the anual car inspection. If it keeps passing without costing to much monney. Then i will still drive it.

I guess a shorter warm-up time might lead to that good feeling. At least the interior gets more comfortable on those cold North Hemisphere winter mornings...

You would think that :P

I almost uso no heater any more.
Wharm up time is massive. When the car used 8l/100km, It warmed up good, and i didnt looked at the temperature of the coolant and use the heater almost always.

Now if the coolant isnt at temperature, no heater for me

I realy need a partial lower grill block soon...

Today i got some time to finaly replace the multibelt. It was already a few weeks squeaking.

Searching in the 2288 pages 135Mb garage manual file...

Here is the lay-out of the belt:

The old belt removed and the new belt ready to go in its final position under tension:

Under tension:

And the old belt:

When this was done, i was thinking/dreaming of a partial lower grill block.
I needed some black plastic, or something.

When i was looking for my wrench, i saw an old linceplate laying around.
PERFECT!

So here is what you need:

Saw it in peaces:

Turn the back to the front, and use 4 zipties.
Done

The upper grill block is rated at around 80-85% blocked.
Now the lower is blocked for somewhere around 20-25%.

Hopefully it shortens warm up times, otherwise, there will be blocked even more.

What about removing that belt-driven fan?

That is actually a good idea. Because even if the viscousius clutch is disengaged. The fan still spins around partially. So there is unnescesary load on the engine.

Is this a good proces for replacement?
- remove the fan of the clutch and remove the fan shroud.
- find and buy an as big as possible electric fan behind the radiator.
- find the signal wire that engage or disengage the fan clutch.
- hack up that wire. Place a relay. And let that signal swith the electric fan on or off.

Optional:
- place 2 smaller electric fans.
- if the signal of the clutch is high. The 2 fans go in series so at low speed.
- place extra coolant temperature sensor and use this signal to switch the fans in parralell or high speed. Place timer. If fans are x time in low speed. Go to high speed.
