Ok, when i was almost at home, the light of empty tank came on (1090km)

And here is my odometer when i reached the station to fill up! (1100,2km)

71,6l for 1100,2km is an average of 6.51 L/100 km or 36.15 mpg (US) or 43.4 mpg (Imp)

Still very good!

In a few days i have 2 hole days time to install the coolant heater.

What is the best way to install this coolant heater?
And with that i mean. What is the easyest way to get the air that will enter the cooling system to get it back out of it.

I will install the glow plug heater in the infeed heater core line.
So there is heat for the cabin. And the rest is for the engine.
If i dont need the heat. I simply swith the fan off.

I finaly found some time to install the heater.

The result of the first day ( got like 6h of time) is the installation of the heaterhousing in the cooling system. And get the cooling system airbleeded. After this i went shopping :P

The second day i got almost everyting of the electrical system wired up. ( I had like 2h time)

The location of the relay, it is now all wired up (no new pic, cause it was dark)

Location of the heater. The tube that is connected to the plastic side of the heaterhousing was normally connected to the inlet of the cabin heater.

And some electrical connections at the heater

Things that needs to get done ( tomorrow ):
Lay the power cable from the alt to the fuse and from the fuse to the relay.
Lay the cable from the switch in the cabin to the relay.

And it should work!

( photo's will be uploaded tomorrow!)

The photo's are now posted.

When testing, i found out that the inlet of the core is the lower connection and the outlet is the upper connection.

So when i got time i need to switch the connections at the heater core...

Now i can use it, but the heater is installed after the cabin heater, so no luxe heat for me Only for the engine

The 80Amp fuse is installed.

The 100Watt oil pan heater is now rewired so it has its own 15Amp fuse.

Lets hope the new fuse holds it and won't look like the old one in a couple of days.

The fuses are holding for so far.

To give an idea of the amp draws...

Voltage at idle. With no lights and or anything else.
14,7V -14,9V

With the lights on 14,5V
And with the oil pan heater on 14,4V
And with the coolant heater on 13,5V
And with the wipers on 13,4V
And with the AC on to defog the window 11,9V - 12,1V when driving slow. Then the AC fans are on. Otherwise it still is 13,4V

I looked up the numbers of fuel consumption for last year of this time. And what the numbers are now.

My last tank with the coolant heater installed (but the first 400km of the 1070km are with the tires at 2,5bar (36psi) instead of 3bar (44psi), had them inflated to late)

Numbers of this tank:
5.84 L/100 km
40.32 mpg (US)

Previus year was around this:
6.09 L/100 km
38.6 mpg (US)

That is a profit of 0.3 L/100 km or 2mpg (US) !

Now up to the weather.

Last year, the average temperature numers are:
Average: 13,6 °C
Average Max.: 17,0 °C
Average Min.: 10,8 °C

This year:
Average: 11,2 °C
Average Max.: 14,9 °C
Average Min.: 6,1 °C

As you see, a lot colder.

The profit in fuel use is probably comming from the following mods:
Full upper grill block, the oil pan heater and the tires with lower rolling resistance.

But the coolant heater takes the profit of the same milage at colder temperatures!!! Because the temperatures where most between 2 and 10 °C that last tank!

If someone want some pics from something, let me know!

Just filled up. 1212km with 71.5l =5,9l/100km. (39,9mpg US)

I drove 350km at 130km/h. Rest is ecomodder style.

The only things that i still want to do are:

-Active grill ****ters in the lower grill.
-Full or almost full belly pan.
-diffuser
-rear Tire spats
-wheel gap fillers

I noticed today that sometimes the radiator fan comes on. Even when the engine is not at operating temperature!

For example, right with the start of the engine until like 15 seconds later it turns off. And at random other times. Like today, coolant temperature is at 54 degrees Celcius.

Is there any reason that explains the activation of the fan? It does not stay on for long, like 10-20 seconds...

Cause, i didnt payed attention to it, but right now, when i get to the limit of hypermiling my car, all very small details pay off, so if i can add a switch to prevent the activation of the fan until the engine is at temperature, that would be good for a very small increas!
