Santa Claus was based on the Dutch Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) who was a Christian replacement for the pagan tradition of Wodan and his helpers (black raven).
Anyway, Christmas is part of Western culture. Christian faith and culture are intertwined; our whole thought frame is modeled on Christian stories and traditions. Losing faith does not rip the ties of culture away.

Yes, "Christmas-December 25" is a fake date designed to cover the "Feast Of Saturnalia" with a Christian holiday, as was done with the Pagan holiday marking the beginning of Spring, Ôstara, 21 / 25 March, named after the Goddess of
the resurrection of crops and animal life.
The New Year, should, by rights, begin on the Winter Solstice, Around December 21/22, as this natural occurrence marks the return of the Sun, and the lengthening of the hours of sunlight, but I have no problem starting it on the first of the next month.
I do wish all a happy solstice!
