Was thinking about thin covering materials and thought about the shrink wrap they use for boat storage. It would work really well for boat tails and grill blocks and such.

I know you brought this up in my aero mods thread where I posted how I used shrinkable window film for a grille block. It worked OK for a short test, but was loosening up every couple of days after a week, so I replaced it with a studier material (from a plastic expanding portfolio).

I'm not sure the type of shrinkable film for boats and such is the same basic stuff used for window insulation kits. If so, my advice is: yes, use it for temporary tests, but don't expect it to last long. If it's thicker and stays taut better than the window stuff, it would be very useful.

you can cover a yacht with it and it will hold up snow over a winter. Probaby a good option. I've never seen it clear, though, always white.

Is it UV treated? Most plastics without that don't stand up too long to Mr. Sol. I'm using plastic sheets over my fog lights but we'll see how long those last. I think the tape will go before it will.

That may be true, but a yacht isn't driven at hwy speeds continuously. Even the light aluminum I used in my initial grille block testing ended up denting due to the force of the wind pushing on it. Nothing beats Painters Blue tape for temprorary modding, but always seek the permanent solution.

Seems this material comes in many different thicknesses up to 12 mil. and has UV inhibitors.
Comes in clear, white and blue.

Redneck Aerodynamic Improvements: Shrink wrap your whole car then spray expandable foam insulation under the wrap. Wait for it to cure, pull the wrap off and carve your car any shape you want.
