I did asked him if he had a tape measure to see if it would fit through his front door on his apartment. His reply was he had some Scotch tape.

It kind of makes me wonder what they teach at universities these days. They probably should add a class called "Common Sense."

I don't have any idea when I would be able to buy a new car, but each time that the Publisher's Clearinghouse big giveaway draws near I start running numbers. I would really like to not be poor!

I wouldn't buy a vehicle unless I could figure out how to get an ROI on it.

It seems in the last couple of years, when you go to the forum and click on "latest posts", you end up seeing the same non car topics.
Global Warming as a hoax, COVID as a hoax, California, Hillary's emails, guns, etc, etc, and nothing that has anything to do with cars.

Eventhough these are in the "off topic" section, they still pop up as the main topics being discussed.

And then when you get to a dedicated section like Aerodynamics, you end up sitting through a comedy where two people are fighting to be the most admired smart person on the site.

I just really, really look forward to the good stuff.

My last biggest eco mod for the leaf was searching out and installing the more efficient energy saver A/S tire. Kind of hard to improve on the leafs 140mpg with out even trying and using it like a pickup truck.

Nowadays it's mostly some useless BS instead of focusing strictly on the skills which would be actually useful in a professional environment.

Thanks everyone for the replies, even the "slightly" off topic ones. Lol. Gave me something good to read this morning.

I definitely agree with the fact that since newer cars are getting better fuel economy, there is less reason to mod. I guess I just miss the old posts where people are still getting their 90s beaters to do insane things. I guess I'm getting old and missing the days gone by.

As for the zoomer opinions, i thing that is 100% location based. Where I live, if you don't have a car, you are a drag on everyone around you. Almost everyone here drives, and it's usually at least a few miles to get to where you need to go, if not 10+.
My youngest brother is in that generation, and was just out wrenching on his 87 Cummins over the weekend. He's a gear head at heart, with 3-4 trucks and 7 three-wheelers from the 1980s.

Less reason doesn't mean no reason at all.

With their earlier electronics, sure those beaters were more DIY-friendly than newer models.

Sure. Well, some may not get into cars due to budget, then turning their focus into small-displacement motorcycles. In some European countries, it's legal to ride a 125cc motorcycle up to 15PS with a car driver license.

Probably because people feel it is less satisfying to mod a car for mpg now when gas is only ~$3 in most of the country and most cars seem to get about 25% more mpgs.
I bet if we had to recreate similar circumstances in today’s economy with the newer cars it would take almost $8/gal gasoline to feel the same mass panic again. *laughs*
My brother got hit pretty nice. Minimum wage was like 6.25, gas was 4.00/gal, and his Ford ranger he had only got 11mpg city. Ouch.
Although don’t give up hope. Here locally gasoline went up 93% from November to now in July. 1.50->2.90

$2.90. Heresy I say. Reno is $3.25. diesel is another .50 and it is SAN FRAN APCD blend. Fortunately, it's 15 minutes to anywhere in town.
