Ecomodder taught me to repair my dryer
Can I save $800 fixing the 16 year old, free Craig's list dryer by replacing the drive belt mee self? Yup. And can I get the door switch to work again for the dryer light and auto-off? Yup. That's about $1,200 in pretax dollars on my paycheck. And it took only 3 or 4 hours, from diagnosis to parts ordering, to installs. Great hourly rate!
Six years on ecomodder.com and attending YouTube Technical College while doing all car and home repairs gave me almost all the moderate skills I have.
Thank you all.

To be fair though, that 16 year old dryer isn't worth $800 now that it's fixed

To be fair, the new dryers that you pay $800 for aren't worth $800.

I bought my last dryer from a used appliance place back in 2011 for $150.
From 2006 to 2011 I did not own a dryer. Only a clothes line.

Things that are hard to move, gain a lot of value just, from already being in the right place.

We did the clothes line thing for many years. This is my first dryer, and it was free maybe 6 years ago. The clothesline thing can get old when you are crammed for space, neighbors grimmace, and morning fogs dampen your clothes for days. When it briefly looked tough to fix yesterday, we did a quick price check for highly rated, durable gas dryers. $800 was the ballpark (I know there are cheaper units). That gave me renewed motivation!
Also, found $3.18 in change from the 60s through the 00s, most of it from 1980s and 1990s, inside the machine, burried under a thck lint carpet. This thing might be older than 16 years.

I once lost my Army ID in the lint trap and discovered a whole pile of change. I felt disappointed when I cleaned out the other dryers and found far less.
