Potential buyer ... seeks spousal dispensation
Thread revival!
---
So I'm doing a bit of yard work and a pick-up truck jams on the brakes going past my driveway with the Metro parked in it.
Pickup driver jumps out and asks: "Do you live here - is that your car?"
Me: affirmative.
Pickup guy: "Is there any chance it's for sale? I used to drive one just like it!"
Turns out his was the 1.3L 4-cyl Firefly (manual), and HE STILL HAS IT, parked at his friend's property just outside of town. I thought I knew where all the local dead Suzukiclones were!
Anyway, he said he quit driving it because of frame rust, but the drivetrain is good and only has ~100k kms on it (62k mi). He said he'd love to swap his drivetrain into a clean shell.
Pickup guy: "I just have to talk to my wife!"
Me, to myself: crap!
Haven't heard from him since.

That's too long... he's gone... or still daydreaming... prolly not buying that car, either way.

Sadly, I'd say the same.
But I may poke him again next week. I know where he works, and he did say he'd been going past my place for several years (!) hoping to see me to ask about the car. His route runs down my street.

"I got the Metro in the divorce" sounds pretty dire.

I'll never be very surprised what someone might do for a Metro Memory again:

Correct answer. You win!
I ran into the guy again yesterday and asked him if he was still interested:
"I really want it, but my wife will kill me if I bring it home."
I joked that he didn't have to bring it home... he could hide it at his friend's house with his Firefly parts car!
That led to a funny story about how he owned a motorbike as a kid, even though his parents forbade him from having one. So parked it at his friend's house about a block away, and walked the rest of the way to/from home. That worked perfectly until his dad happened to be going past the friend's place one day just as he was stashing the bike after a ride. Busted!!

Only a teenager would be so green as to not realize how likely it is that, eventually, a parent will see you if your secret hiding place for you disallowed bike is just around the corner. That's like having the carthief chop shop a block from the police station. lol
