Ecomods so far and ideas ...

So, I got my Elantra 2002 since last december. Discovered the site a few months ago and decided I should do something about my FE!

So fist thing I did was change the clutch, even though the car only had 60k miles, the clutch was finished! That brought me FE back under 10l/100km (or above 23mpg)

Other mods so far :

- oil catch can
- removed the Thule roof rack
- WAI
- spare tire removal (weight reduction ... the thing was rusted in place and leaking)
- tire wall presure

On my to do list is :

- convert to LED bulbs
- 35w HID (already have the kit with the projectors)
- ... not sure what next!

I'll try to post some pictures later!

agreed! I was looking at the many threads here and looks like it can be made in a few hours with little money!

I was also thinking about a grill block and a front lip (small air dam). But as far as outside mods, that's pretty much all I can do, the wife already have problems with the mods already on the car! lol

I feel if you did a grill block it wouldn't be so much as aero but as helping your wai getting warmer air if you don't wanna see it. As far as an air dam you can take lawn edging and make it look pretty oem if done properly.

I'm only doing these secretive type mods to my car in the near future for the pure reason my car looks to nice to be wanting to throw a bunch of tape on it and my dad feels there is no possible way to increase your mileage except easy driving although my easy driving got me 26mpg and hypermiling i got 32mpg but if they wont be convinced lets be secretive.

For the "front lip/small air dam" I'll go with the infamous "Home Depot Lip" (google it ) it's cheap and I easy to do!

Injector kill switch.
This enables quick and frequent coasting with engine off.
Just a few $$ for a switch and some wire.

You'll need a dash mounted switch, but it's still stealthy when looking at the outside of the car. There's a thread (in DIY??) on mounting the switch on the gearshift, that thread was on a Civic. Mine is on the dash.

MPGuino for near-instant mpg data, updates 2x per second.
Or maybe a ScanGauge instead. But first make sure it will work with Elantra. My ScanGauge 2 does NOT work on my son's Elantra, don't know why.

no need for a gauge, the Elantra already comes with one!

As for the kill switch, no thanks, somehow this Elantra needs it's power steering, tried EOCing and got scared when I needed to turn and change lane on a downhill ... never needed both hands on the steering wheel with a disabled PS on any car but this one!

Though, if I "plan" my EOCing better (like clutch starting the car before curves, etc..) it could be ok!
